SUSTAINABLE ENERGIES: TYPES AND BENEFITS
Sustainable energy is the one that can be obtained through natural sources such as the sun, the air and the rain. It supplies the current needs not being prejudicial for the resources of future generations. It is formed by: renewable energies, alternative resources and fusion energies. In addition to knowing the different existing types, we will talk about their benefits.
Solar energy
This energy obtained directly from the sun is used to produce both electricity and heat. This will depend on the mechanism of use that is used:
- Photovoltaic solar energy produces electricity
- Solar thermal energy generates heat
- Thermoelectric solar energy generates heat in a greater efficiency
Benefits: Renewable, non-polluting and available around the planet. Its simplicity makes it ideal for using in isolated points of the network, rural areas or with difficulties to access. Useful for generating electricity on a large scale, especially in areas where there are abundant hours of sunshine per year.
Wind energy
Aeolian energy benefits from wind through windmills or wind turbines. The eolic parks connected to the network and the isolated mini windmills are the most traditional installations used for the generation of energy.
Benefits: Renewable, non-polluting, unlimited and reduces the use of fossil fuels. In addition, it does not produce toxic substances neither the air or water.
Seawater energy
Also known as the energy from the water, it is that energy that takes advantage of the movements of ocean waves, tides, salinity and temperature differences.
Benefits: Renewable, one of the cleanest energies and predictable when knowing the cycles of the tides. Efficiency at low speed and long life of the structures used to take advantage of this energy.
Geothermal energy
This energy benefits from the large volume of energy in the form of heat existing beneath the surface of the Earth. It can be used to produce both electrical and thermal energy.
Benefits: Renewable, decreases the use of fossil fuels and saves money, since the costs for the production of electricity are low.
Bioenergy
Also known as biomass energy, it is composed of biodegradable fractions of products from agricultural, fishing and industrial activities.
These fractions, when processed, become biofuels and the energy they contain intervene in different transformation processes to obtain thermal energy / heat, electricity or mechanical energy.
Benefits: It reduces CO2 emissions, makes possible the use of marginal lands as slopes and the existence of trained institutions with great knowledge in the matter in question.
Hydraulic energy
Obtained through the potential and kinetic energy of water to produce electrical energy. The resources used for this will be the water contained in dams and reservoirs.
Benefits: Renewable, non-polluting and stable and flexible production according to demand.
Fusion energy
Energy released in the fusion of atomic nuclei. This is used for the production of electrical energy and heat.
Benefits: Non-polluting, reduces the use of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions, generating large amounts of energy.
